The Dunes Restoration Trust of New Zealand
Kiwis love their beaches. Every region holds some piece of our coastline dear, and has ownership of its particular environmental story. Our dunes perform a key role in helping protect our coastal communities from the threat of erosion and we all need to do our bit to keep them in good shape.
That's why the Dunes Restoration Trust of New Zealand has captured the imagination and commitment of several Quinovic owners and staff around the country, and that's why we urge you to find out what you can do - as individuals, families and businesses - to support the work of the Trust.
WHAT IS THE TRUST?
The Dunes Trust is a charitable organisation that brings people together to share information on sand dunes, with emphasis on the use of New Zealand native dune vegetation to restore the dunes' natural character, form and function. Its annual award recognises the dune restoration projects of communities around New Zealand's coastline.
The Trust's vision is "To see the majority of New Zealand dunes restored and sustainably managed using indigenous species by 2050".
WHAT DOES THE TRUST DO?
The Trust works to restore our dune systems as a defence against the likely effects of climate change and sea level rise. It also aims to empower coastal communities to adapt to climate change. Organisations and individuals are involved in the Trust, including regional and district councils, research agencies, forestry companies, tertiary education institutes, iwi, consultants, nurseries and community groups, such as Beach Care and Coast Care.
By joining the Trust you can help care for New Zealand's iconic beaches and sand dunes. There are several categories of membership available.
