New Tenancy Fee

Quinovic, along with a number of other property management companies, are introducing a new fee to cover the cost of tenanting properties.

Property and policy updates

The Tenancy Tribunal has generally accepted 15 micrograms per 100cm2 as the minimum standard for meth contamination in rental properties, in line with the level proposed in the Gluckman report released on May 28 this year. Tribunal Chief Adjudicator Melissa Poole said the new level would apply as long as the meth test was done after the report was released.

Reform of the Residential Tenancies Act 1986 (RTA)

Public submissions on the reform of the RTA closed on 21 October and Quinovic Group Office, along with a number of its franchisees, have made submissions. The review is designed to ensure that the law governing New Zealand’s rental market strikes an appropriate balance between protecting a landlord’s interest in their property and ensuring tenants receive fair rights for the rent they are paying.

Healthy Homes Standards

Public submissions on Healthy Homes Standards closed on 20 October and Quinovic Group Office, along with a number of its franchises, have made submissions. The review sought feedback on proposed new standards for rental homes to make them warmer, drier and healthier.

Meanwhile, Housing Minister Phil Twyford has issued a consultation paper on minimum standards proposed under the Healthy Homes Guarantee Act, which the Government says must be in place by July 1 next year.

Tax report looks at housing effects

An interim report released on September 20 by the Tax Working Group says some features of the tax system – such as the inconsistent treatment of capital income – have probably exacerbated the house price cycle even if the tax system is not the primary cause of unaffordable housing.
